How to create a .vnc file
I’ve been using UltraVNC for a while now and have gotten tired of typing in the same old IP addresses repeatedly.
“There has to be a better way”, I thought to myself. And there is. Creating *.vnc shortcuts is the better way.
It took a minute to find
I was surprised at how hard I had to search, just to find out how to save *.vnc files. To me, this should be something fairly obvious to do.
I had to do it from a live session
In order to create the file, I had to be in a live remote session. The following are the steps I took to create the file but If you know of a better way, please let me know!
The “How” of it
- Open a remote session.
- Click on the vnc icon in the upper left-most corner of the window.
- Select “Save Connection Info As” or click Ctl+Alt+F5.
- In the “Save As” window, give your new shortcut a meaningful name.

- Test the shortcut.
- You’re done!
Save some time
If you are tired of typing the same ol’ IP address repeatedly, using this short “How To” will save you some time (and mouse clicks).
