How to create a .vnc file

I’ve been using UltraVNC for a while now and have gotten tired of typing in the same old IP addresses repeatedly.

“There has to be a better way”, I thought to myself. And there is. Creating *.vnc shortcuts is the better way.

It took a minute to find

I was surprised at how hard I had to search, just to find out how to save *.vnc files. To me, this should be something fairly obvious to do.

I had to do it from a live session

In order to create the file, I had to be in a live remote session. The following are the steps I took to create the file but If you know of a better way, please let me know!

The “How” of it

  1. Open a remote session. Create a vnc session
  2. Click on the vnc icon in the upper left-most corner of the window.
  3. Select “Save Connection Info As” or click Ctl+Alt+F5. Save connection info
  4. In the “Save As” window, give your new shortcut a meaningful name. Save As
  5. Test the shortcut.
  6. You’re done!

Save some time

If you are tired of typing the same ol’ IP address repeatedly, using this short “How To” will save you some time (and mouse clicks).
